Week 6 Devotional
In my encounter today with God’s Word, I think of the covenant I live under, that you live under too if you believe in
the message of Jesus. Whether or not we have Jewish blood, believing in Christ as the Messiah makes us children of
Abraham (Romans 4:13, 16). When Jesus lived a sinless life, died, and in power overcame the grave, he left his
followers a timeless gift: God’s own presence, the Holy Spirit, living in us.
God has put himself into our selves. Into the renewed diagnosis of cancer, the confusion of how to love a family
member who is so unhappy with us, the fear of not being able to get a good job. God knows our bodies, our
relationships, and our need. Our hope is tangible, because it isn’t just for the future4it is for today. Today, in the
middle of pain, we can know that God’s very self4the Spirit4is with our friend, with you, and with me, in this. God
will.

PRAY ER
Lord God, you know my friends and I can feel discouraged. Thank you that you have already
put new life of your Spirit in the middle of these death-feeling situations. I pray to believe
the words you speak, that you are the same God who promised to free the Israelites from
slavery because of your covenant with them, and that because of your new covenant with
us, you will lead us out of captivity into freedom of new life in Christ. Amen.
