DAY 7 1: JUNE 30

Then Samson prayed to the LORD, “Sovereign LORD,
remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one
more time.”

This passage shows an example of a bad cycle that someone could have stopped—but didn’t. The father of
Samson’s wife saw that Samson appeared to have abandoned her, usually making her unmarryable to anyone
else. Perhaps rightly, he protected his daughter by finding her a spouse. Then, learning this, Samson took revenge
on the Philistines (and hurt or possibly killed several foxes—beautiful creatures God made). Then, the Philistines
avenged themselves by killing the father and the daughter (which seems especially unfair as women in that
context often had little choice about who they married). And then, and then, and then.
When you read this passage, do you feel like you're witnessing temper tantrums? A bunch of dysregulated people
who need to acknowledge their emotions before indulging their retaliatory desires? I do.
