Week 31 Devotional
DAY 2 10
GOD’S STORY
John 8:1-20
Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are
your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
JOHN 8:10-11, NLT
DEV OTION
They laid the trap, and this woman was the bait. By Jewish law, the man who had slept with her should also have
been there, being judged. Had the powerful people not been out to achieve their ends, they would have followed
the law and also confronted the man. And they could have confronted the two in private—not submitted them to
public shame.
But that didn’t seem to matter to the religious leaders, because their real aim was to catch Jesus. But God cared,
and God was (and is) in charge.
Has someone ever laid a trap for you? Accused you of things you never said, talked about you to others, or created
a false narrative about you?
It happens to a lot of us, and it can help us feel a bit of what this woman might have felt. When it happened to me
(a few times), I felt confused.
