G OD’S STORY
Acts 8:26-40
An angel of the Lord said to [Philip], “Go south.” . . . The Holy
Spirit said to Philip, “Go over.” . . . Philip ran over and heard
the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do
you understand what you are reading?” . . . Beginning with
this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about
Jesus. . . . The eunuch never saw him again but went on his
way rejoicing.

When I was little, my mom used to read God’s Word to my six siblings and me as we crowded around the
breakfast table. Then, almost daily it seemed, something in my day would echo what my mom had read! This is
one of the ways I began to believe that God was real—his Word seemed to follow me around even through my
elementary school days. And it still happens today. In fact, it recently happened with this passage.
As I read Philip’s story of meeting with a seeker, I was experiencing the same opportunity. In my work, I help
