Clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience.
These qualities shape the kind of relationships God desires.
Forgiveness replaces resentment. Love becomes the thread that holds relationships together. Gratitude steadies
the heart.
None of these qualities grows naturally in a culture that celebrates all-or-nothing thinking (someone is either all
good, if they’re like us and behave the way we think they should, or all bad, if they’re not and don’t).
Remembering that the Holy Spirit lives within us and that we matter to God, we put these clothes on. My business
casual pants take more work than my leggings4I have to toss them into the dryer to de-wrinkle them. And they
feel less natural4I feel the tug of a waistband with a button when smooth elastic would feel more free.
